JLTW Sustaining Scholarship Fund 2023

The Junior League of The Woodlands, Inc. (JLTW) Sustaining Scholarship recognizes a graduating senior who exemplifies an outstanding volunteer spirit by contributing significantly in the areas of community service and leadership during her high school career. A minimum of one $1,000 scholarship will be awarded in the spring of 2023.

JLTW is an organization of women whose mission is to advance women's leadership for meaningful community impact through volunteer action, collaboration, and training. We welcome all women who value this mission and we are committed to inclusive environments of diverse individuals, organizations and communities. 

This year's Sustaining Scholarship is given in Memory of Brandi Spurgin.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Applicants must be a female graduating senior
  • Applicant must graduate from one of the following school districts (or private school within one of these districts): Aldine, Conroe, Cypress- Fairbanks, Humble, Klein, Magnolia, Montgomery, Spring, Tomball
  • Applicant must demonstrate involvement in community service and voluntarism
  • Applicant must have a commitment to academic excellence 
  • Applications must be complete and received by 6:00 pm on March 30, 2023
  • Applicant must be enrolled in an educational institution for the award year
  • Applicant’s biographical information may be shared for promotional purposes and/or media releases
  • Children and siblings of JLTW members are not eligible

III.  Letters of Recommendation

Two letters of recommendation are required with the application. One letter must be from an academic advisor, counselor, or teacher. The other letter must be from a non-family member. The letters should focus on the student’s volunteer/community service efforts and may also include academic and other achievements. Though not a requirement, JLTW members may provide a maximum of one reference letter. Recommendations must be uploaded with the application or e-mailed to scholarships@jltw.org by the March 30, 2023 deadline. Late letters will not be accepted.

IV. Community Volunteer Activities

Include all activities in the community such as places of worship, service organizations, and other agencies.

Include all employment and paid community activities - places of worship, service organizations, and other agencies. 

VI. Extracurricular Activities

Include all school-related activities outside of normal class load - class offices, clubs, athletics, music, etc.

VII. Essay Questions

These essay questions are a key part of each application and will be carefully read by the Selection Committee. JLTW and the Selection Committee confidentially hold all applications. Responses must be typed in a separate document (include applicant’s name at the top of each page) and submitted with the completed application. Only electronic/typed responses will be considered.

 

 

By signing this application, I acknowledge that all information is true and correct and that if awarded scholarship proceeds will be used towards educational expenses (tuition, room & board or books) at the learning institution that I will be attending. 

I give Junior League of The Woodlands permission to use my biographical information, essay and/or photo in promotion materials/ media releases.

Recipient(s) of JLTW’s Sustaining Scholarship will be notified on or before May 1, 2023. Recipient(s) and her parent/guardian(s) are encouraged to attend an official presentation at JLTW’s May Annual Dinner on May 23, 2023 (additional information will be provided at time of notification).
