JLTW Sustaining Scholarship Fund

 

JLTW’s Sustaining Scholarship Fund recognizes a graduating senior who exemplifies an outstanding volunteer spirit by contributing significantly in the areas of community service and leadership during her high school years.  One $1,000 scholarship will be provided in the spring of 2019.

Junior League of The Woodlands (JLTW) is an organization of women committed to promoting voluntarism, developing the potential of women, and improving communities through the effective action and leadership of trained volunteers. We welcome all women who value this mission. We are committed to inclusive environments of diverse individuals, organizations and communities.

In recognition of the JLTW Members who made this year’s scholarship possible, we recognize and thank the following women as Inaugural Donors to the Sustaining Scholarship Fund:

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Applicant must be a graduating senior female student.
  • Applicant must graduate from one of the following school districts, or a private school within: Willis, Conroe, Spring, Klein, Tomball, Cypress Fairbanks, Aldine, Humble, Magnolia, or Montgomery ISD.
  • Applicant must demonstrate involvement in community service and voluntarism.
  • Applicant must have a commitment to academic excellence of at least B average or 3.0 GPA.
  • Applications must be received by April 1, 2019.
  • Applicant must be enrolled in an educational institution for the award year.
  • Applicant’s biographical information may be shared for promotional and/or media releases.
  • Children and siblings of JLTW Members are not eligible.

III.  Two Letters of Recommendation

Two letters of recommendation are required with this application. One letter must be from an academic advisor, counselor, or a teacher. The other letter must be from a non-family member. The letters should focus on the student’s volunteer efforts and may also include academic and other achievements. Though not a requirement, JLTW Members may provide a maximum of 1 reference letter; the other must be from a non-Member. Recommendations must be sent with the original application by the April 1, 2019 deadline.  Late letters will not be accepted.

Include all activities in the community - places of worship, service organizations, and other agencies.

Include all employment paid community activities - places of worship, service organizations, and other agencies. 


VI. High School Extracurricular Activities

Include all school-related activities outside of normal class load - class offices, clubs, athletics, music, etc.


VII. Essay Questions

These essay questions are a key part of each application and will be read carefully by the Selection Committee. All applications are confidentially held by JLTW and the Selection Committee. Responses must be typed on a separate sheet of paper (include applicant’s name at the top) and submitted with the completed application.  Only typewritten responses will be considered.


By signing this application, I acknowledge that if awarded this scholarship that the scholarship proceeds will be transmitted directly to the college or university that I will be attending and will be credited to the upcoming academic year. 

 

I give Junior League of The Woodlands permission to use my biographical information, essay and/or photograph in promotional materials and media releases.

 The award recipient of JLTW’s Sustaining Scholarship Fund will be notified by May 1, 2019 via phone and email. Recipient and her parent(s) are encouraged to attend an official presentation at JLTW’s May Annual Dinner on May 14, 2019 (details provided to the recipient at the time of notification).
